What Would Jeff Do? Dog Training Question of the Day #11
Be careful who your dog hangs out with.
We get a lot of folks who have started down the training and rehab process and they don’t know what to do when other people want to bring their dogs to your home and those dogs are not trained and pretty out of control. So what do you do?

Firt you make firm boundaries your home your rules, just like if you do not allow someone to smoke in your your home or for kids to be running around inside of your home. I don’t think its advocating for your dog if you are training your dog it is very challenging to have misbehaving dogs in your home.

Options are, folks don’t bring their dogs, or they need to contain them some how, keep a leash on their dog, bring a crate for their dog, or you can kennel up your dog to make the continouing of your dog training to be successful as much as possible. Sure the goal is that your dog will listen to you even with other dogs that are not controlled, but that is a lot ot ask for most dogs. Its not a “friendly” dog issue, its a dog not in control issue.

Have this all planned out prior to issues like this popping up, and yep feelings may be hurt but it is so important that you advocate for your dog .

You can always have the opportuntiy for dogs to play outside if all dogs are social, but if you cannot trust your dogs or your guests dogs it can be a heck of a set up for a dangerous situation.
